![]() ![]() Here, most of the time the only difference is some base amount of innate elemental damage chance, and then everyone has a somewhat different “ultimate,” though you don’t get to use that often. In most games, character classes are wholly distinct. ![]() One thing I have yet to really understand about Godfall is why there are 12 Valorplates and how they really differentiate from each other other than very, very minor ways. It feels like it wants to be an arcade-y, easy Dark Souls at times, with unlimited respawns and even mid-boss health bar checkpoints. But most of the time, it’s hacking, slashing and more hacking and slashing. ![]() Godfall has no magic component, and its only projectiles are a shield throw shared across all characters, and I think I unlocked one move that’s a quick spin to throw out a few blades. Diablo has all its countless magic spells, and hell, even Ghost of Tsushima has bows and throwing knives and smoke bombs and such. I will say it’s a little weird to have a game in this setting that is almost entirely about melee combat. Sometimes it does feel a bit unresponsive, like taking out my shield feels like it only works half the time I press the button, and even then it takes like a full second to appear. It’s fine now (I think).Ĭombat is probably where Godfall shines the most, and it’s a decently fun system that I may not enjoy quite as much as Avengers brawling, but it’s solid all the same, and fun getting used to the different weapon types and combos. The game crashed twice the first day, the second time so forcefully it shut off my entire PS5 and put it into a “recovery and repair” screen, which was alarming for day one of the console being used. While most of the time it looks great in 60 fps, the more I play, the more I have been getting some occasional hard frame drops, which I’m told also happen on PC, which makes it seem like this is more of a Godfall problem than a PS5 problem. The realms are “open” in that you can explore random pathways whenever you want, but that’s all they are, pathways, and it often makes the game seem like an endless series of hallways.īefore we head into gameplay, I’ll say up front I have some concerns about the game’s performance. It’s not quite the level of sci-fi ultra-weirdness we see from Warframe, and while I like some of the armor and weapon designs, the levels feel very cluttered and claustrophobic and repetitive. ![]()
